Guest Speaker:

Michelle Howes, PE grew up on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from the University of Akron in Ohio in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Michelle began her career in Salt Lake City, Utah where she worked for Goldman Sachs in Operations reviewing financial trading data. She soon realized she missed the roots of civil engineering and joined the rotational engineering program at the Utah Department of Transportation. After a few years, Michelle and her husband took a sabbatical to pursue their dream of traveling and living aboard a sailboat for about 6 months, traveling down the East coast from New Bern, NC to the Bahamas and back.

Upon return, she put down roots in Raleigh, NC where she joined NCDOT Transportation Planning Division and began working with MPOs/RPOs across the central and eastern region of the state. She then took a role in Feasibility Studies helping to coordinate express designs, until most recently joining Division 3 as the Division Corridor Development Engineer in 2023. She is grateful for the opportunity to move back to the coast and looks forward to moving projects along through prioritization process and coordinating efforts with the local community and planning organizations.
