The African American Business Council is dedicated to driving the growth and success of Black-owned businesses by connecting attendees with business resources, professional development, business education, and networking opportunities. Our mission is to support and strengthen African American entrepreneurs and business owners, contributing to a robust and thriving business community in Wilmington.

ecial presentation on scaling your business for success by Certified Business Advisor and Vice Chair of the AABC, Atiba Johnson! 

Atiba Johnson is a native of Wilmington, NC, an entrepreneur, and the founder of the OOPS Foundation. OOPS stands for Offering Optimistic Plans for Success and is a youth development non-profit that fosters self-confidence, leadership skills, and positive decision-making in underserved, at-risk youth. He is a graduate of Hoggard High School, and he attended Winston-Salem State University. Atiba always knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur from an early age. He is passionate about working with the younger generation, as so many mentors in the community have worked with him. Atiba is a certified business advisor at Channel Powered by Live Oak Bank. He is also a small business owner of Front Street Market & Produce, S & J Concierge, Regal Events Dj, LLC, Johnson's Kennel of NC, and Coastal Transport & Shuttle (U haul).  

He was awarded Volunteer of the Year during UNCW's Public Service Awards in 2010, the Hometown Hero Award in 2014, and the Black Male Image Award in 2015, and is the recipient of the 2023 NHC Equity Award in business. In addition, Atiba has served on many other non-profit boards and is currently serving on the city of Wilmington's Commission for African American History. When Atiba is not spending time with his family, wife Bernice, sons Dy’quell and Amir, and daughters Kiana and Atiya—He is volunteering and working with kids & adults in the community.

Parking is available on the street or in the deck across the street from Channel.  Light breakfast items and coffee will be provided.
